Day 01 - Home to Brownsburg, In

Jerry met us at our home and we headed out on our first day of the trip around 6:10am. The temperature was 70F and the skies were clear. Traffic was moderately heavy as we made our way north up US15 to I70.

When we hit I70, the temp was still 70F and Rob set the cruise at 70mph. By the time we reached the Cumberland Gap temps had fallen to 65F and Michele was feeling a bit like a popsicle so we found a gas station and made a stop to top off fuel and allow Michele to add some layers.

We continued for another 150 miles and stopped for lunch at Defelice Bros. Pizza in St. Clairsville, OH for lunch. We shared a chicken BBQ pizza. The pizza was deep dish style and the crust was excellent.

We made another 170 miles until our next stop just on the western side of Columbus. Traffic was very heavy getting through Columbus with construction and start of rush hour, about 2:30pm.

Since we were slowed by traffic we had time to notice this tandem 18-wheeler with a tire that was starting to delaminate. Dangerous!

We were comforted by the fact that they were awarded for safety (really?)

With only 160 miles left we made the remainder of the day's trip non-stop except for more traffic and construction.

Here are a few sights from the day.

We arrived in Brownsburg, IN at 6:45pm. We checked into the hotel and walked over to a nearby restaurant called Boulder Creek. Rob celebrated the trip’s first day with a Blood Orange Margarita. Jerry had a Blue Moon and Michele a lemonade. For dinner, Michele and Rob shared a chicken scallopini and Caesar salad. Jerry had the BBQ meatloaf. Both meals were very good.

Tomorrow we set out for Omaha Nebraska.
