Day 15 - Olympic to Chelan, Wa

We got up around 6:30am, loaded the bikes up, had breakfast and were on the road by 8am. The weather was cool, around 50F and the clouds were very low. No rain however so we did not complain.

Today we back tracked south on US101 for about 76 miles to Aberdeen before turning east on US12. We then picked up I5 and headed north towards Seattle. We stopped for lunch in Tukwila at a Famous Daves.

After lunch we continued north on I5 battling the heavy Seattle area traffic before taking US2 east just north of Redmond.

US 2 wound us around some mountains. We crossed over Stevens Pass at around 4000 feet.

Shortly after ascending the pass, we entered the town of Leavenworth. This town transports you to Bavaria. The restaurants, hotels, and businesses are all dressed up in a Bavarian style. An interesting place out in the middle of Washington state.

We passed through Sunnyslope and US2 followed the Columbia River to our day’s destination in Chelan. We saw a few Bald Eagles today (some flying and others perched).

Our hotel (the Deep Inn), was a short half mile walk from downtown so once we had the bikes unpacked, we walked to the Stormy Mountain Brewing and Public House. Rob and Jerry sampled some local beers and Michele had some tasty Washington State red wine.

Tomorrow we head for the northern border and the Canadian portion of out trip.
